Description
Tigers for Tomorrow is a wild animal preserve and environmental center located in the foothills of Northeast Alabama just an hour south of Chattanooga, TN. Our team is seeking a full-time entry-level keeper to join our predator-based preserve, providing permanent homes to over 150 animals. This is a year-round position with the opportunity to care for a variety of animal species and the ability for professional growth. The right candidate must be willing and able to provide exceptional care for big cats, bears, wolves, small mammals, farm animals, equines and hoof stock.
Major Job Duties:
-Must have general knowledge of animal care, feeding and handling (including manual restraint)
-Make daily observations of animals and report any abnormalities to supervisor
-Execute daily zoo keeping tasks including but not limited to: cleaning habitats, feeding, routine habitat maintenance/ repair, maintaining facility grounds and providing animal enrichment
-Has the ability to learn and follow diet plans, feeding schedules, medical treatments/prescriptions and proper record keeping
– Ability to learn tours, provide keeper chats and participate in special events
– Has excellent communication skills, follows safety protocols related to working with exotic animals and carnivores, deals tactfully with guests, volunteers, co-workers and supervisors
– Responsible for properly representing Tigers for Tomorrow, expressing compassion and excellence in all areas of animal care.
Working Conditions:
– Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends and holidays as needed; must be willing and able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and sometimes unpleasant environmental conditions.
– This is a physically demanding profession requiring physical strength, ability and stamina. Must have the ability to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, use rakes, shovels, push wheelbarrows and be able to remain active for a full shift.
Education and Pre-requisites
– 1-year minimum working experience (Internships, volunteer work or school experience not accepted) preference to candidates with previous carnivore experience
– Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, biology or related field preferred
– Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license
Compensation and benefits
Salary negotiable based on experience.
