Description

• Provide information about the zoo facility, its collection of animals and conservation to general public through programs, presentations and tours.
• Develop educational materials for presentations, handouts or workbooks and adapt materials for
various age groups from preschool children to adults.
• Host educational animal demonstrations in conjunction with Husbandry staff.
• Develop and implement educational programs to present via distance learning.
• Animal training under the direction of the Husbandry team for outreach programs.
• Plans for and participates in community based events.
• Act as camp leader for children ages six (6) to twelve (12).
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Pre-requisites

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelors’ Degree in Natural Sciences or Education
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Must be a team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Ability to use a variety of interpretive techniques to convey information to the public.
• Good public speaking ability and willingness to give presentations to a large audience.
• Previous animal experience preferred, but not required.
• Previous experience with distance learning equipment a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Ability to work in Alaska weather extremes.
• While performing duties of this job, you will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tolls or controls.

Compensation and benefits

Work hours will vary with some evenings, overnights and weekends required based on program schedules. This is a full-time, year-round, permanent position with benefits. The starting pay of the position depends on experience.
