Description

Manages all dive activities related to the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium dive program. Responsible for developing and enforcing policies and procedures that ensure safe diving practices alongside the Diving Control Board and Director of Husbandry. Manage staff and volunteer dive programs, including member selection, testing, training and scheduling. Test and maintain dive related equipment used under the auspices of the Aquarium dive programs. Ensure compliance with all OSHA and AAUS standards related to Diving Operations. Helps facilitate providing highly responsible care and husbandry of LLPA’s diverse living collections.

Education and Pre-requisites

 Possession of a bachelor’s degree in oceanography, biology, or related field which utilizes scientific diving and 4 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for aquarium diving programs; or equivalent education/training or experience.  
Valid SCUBA instructor certification from a nationally recognized agency, with the ability to teach open-water, advanced open water, rescue diver, first aid/CPR/AED, and oxygen provider classes.
Experience in technical diving methods as applied to aquarium diving, such as emergency response, dry suit diving, mixed gas diving, or surface supplied air diving. 
Preferred minimum of four years’ experience in public zoo or aquarium-related diving and/or scientific diving.  
Proficiency in the proper use of equipment, hand tools, and shop equipment.  
Be able to train others on equipment operation and maintenance needs.  
Hold active Divemaster or higher certification by a nationally recognized agency. 
Utah driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one within 3 months from the date of hire.  
 Present evidence of all dive training and diving history.  
 Ability to lift a minimum of sixty (60) pounds
 

Critical Skills/Competencies: 

Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office software packages. 
Preferred experience in underwater maintenance and repair.  
Preferred experience using volunteer coordination software such as Volgisitics  
Experience in Full Face Mask Surface Supplied dive operations  
Have the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and service diving equipment.  
Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, hazards and safety precautions associated with aquarium diving.
