Description

The Lake Superior Zoological Society, a nonprofit, is seeking a qualified individual to serve as its Director of Animal Management. Primary function is to provide leadership, direction and vision for the Animal Care Department. This includes supervising staff, overseeing all aspects of the animal collection and developing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures for animal care staff and husbandry. The Lake Superior Zoo is an AZA-accredited zoo, with 2016 being an accreditation renewal year. The Lake Superior Zoo maintains approximately 400 animals from 110 species, and is currently engaged in a planning process with the City of Duluth for future zoo operations. This individual must believe in our mission, be a team player, and possess strong leadership skills. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Education and Pre-requisites

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a relevant field, a minimum of 5 years relevant coursework and/or experience related to zoo animal husbandry, and a minimum of 2 years proven supervisory experience.

Compensation and benefits

Position available March 1, 2016, with onboarding and orientation in mid-February. Relocation expenses are not provided. FT w/ benefits. Salary: $38,000 – $42,000 DOQ.
