General Purpose:
This position is responsible for executing the Zoo’s digital marketing strategy through content creation, data reporting and the daily maintenance of the Zoo’s digital properties across numerous channels. In addition to promoting the Zoo and its programs via email marketing, social media marketing and the Zoo’s website, this position reports on the effectiveness of the Zoo’s digital strategy to inform future marketing efforts.

Supports the Zoo’s revenue and attendance goals along with its mission through the execution of thoughtful, strategic digital marketing campaigns

Uses master marketing strategy and calendar to plan messages across digital platforms, ensuring alignment with other marketing channels and efforts

Works with marketing department and other Zoo departments to develop content that tells the Zoo’s story through digital marketing channels

Collects and reports on digital metrics to determine campaign effectiveness and make recommendations for future digital marketing efforts

Collaborates with Zoo vendors and stakeholders in order to provide digital marketing coordination to align efforts with internal campaigns

Develops content with community partners to co-promote the Zoo

Grows and maintains social media platforms to brand standards, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube

Optimizes content for each platform in order to improve Zoo’s effectiveness in digital marketing spaces

Creates and publishes content to a variety of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube while optimizing content for each platform and aligning with Zoo brand standards

Provides excellent guest services, digital engagement and community management on social media platforms to respond to guests and/or route inquiries to appropriate departments

Monitors the Zoo’s brand across review sites, guest feedback online, and mentions to track brand sentiment

Ensures that external sites have the correct information for the Zoo

Updates the Zoo’s website to keep content up-to-date and aligned with current marketing campaigns and industry standards

Makes recommendations for website updates with user experience as a priority

Drafts and deploys email marketing campaigns

Maintains and grows email marketing list

Gathers information from topics and conversations in the digital space to make recommendations on marketing efforts

Updates knowledge of the digital space to keep the Zoo’s marketing programs in alignment with current best practices and new regulations

Makes recommendations for new opportunities in digital marketing

Education and Pre-requisites

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Marketing or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of two years of digital marketing experience
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of social media platforms and email marketing platforms required
Knowledge of social media analytics and management platforms, Google analytics, HTML, photo and video editing software and/or Adobe Creative Suite preferred
Excellent written and verbal English communications skills required. Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) communication skills a plus
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, photography and video editing preferred
Valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record
Ability to work evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays when necessary

The employee is regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:

This position regularly works with others including Zoo executives and employees.
The position primarily functions indoors, with frequent exposure to outdoor Zoo environments and external events.
Occasional local travel may be required.
