Description

This position is responsible for all aspects of staff management within their department and reports to the facility Director. They will work directly with the veterinarian to ensure optimal health for the animal collection and will manage all animal care programs. The general curator will assist the director and the maintenance department in the design and completion of new animal exhibits and well as renovations to existing exhibits. This position will require hands on work and should only be considered by those who enjoy actively participating in the operation of their department. ZooWorld takes pride in providing its guests with exceptional service and memorable experiences, the general curator will be responsible for ensuring that the animal care department fulfills this mission through the use of educational talks and interactive animal experiences. The curator will be expected to participate in collection and long range planning.

Education and Pre-requisites

– A minimum of 5 years in a zoological setting
– A Bachelors degree, or higher, in a science related field
– A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role,
– Must be able to manage and work well with staff and make logical decisions
– Experience working with a wide variety of animals
– The ability to work flexible hours, to include some nights, weekends and holidays
– Must be able to complete the work of a zookeeper with no restrictions
Preference will be given to those with:
– Experience in exhibit design or
– Experience in exhibit construction or
– Experience in animal programs and shows

Compensation and benefits

$35,000 – $40,000 per year DOEQ
