Description

Utah’s Hogle Zoo’s Conservation Department is announcing the opening of a new position as the Zoo’s Conservation Action Coordinator.

The Zoo is seeking an enterprising and energetic individual for the Conservation Action Coordinator position. The Zoo has a successful history of implementing conservation practices and is in the process of creating a comprehensive long-term Sustainability Plan and Community Conservation Plan. The Conservation Action Coordinator position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to coordinate implementation of the Plans across the organization. The Coordinator will serve as a facilitator in the Zoo’s move towards sustainability and engaging guests in conservation action, acting through a collaborative process. This position reports to the Zoo’s Director of Conservation. The coordinator will be responsible for tracking the organization’s carbon footprint and resource use, expanding staff and guest awareness and take action programs, and assisting in the development and maintenance of the Zoo’s Sustainability Plan and Community Conservation Plan.

Education and Pre-requisites

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in environment and sustainability studies or related field are preferred. Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), organizational, and computer skills. Individuals must also possess a strong working knowledge and dedicated interest for the concept of sustainability and awareness of the central issues relating to wildlife conservation. Candidates with related experience are also preferred.

Additionally, applicants must be able to:
• work positively in a team environment and with external partners,
• represent the Zoo’s mission in public forums,
• be self-motivated, organized and reliable,
• work independently and focus on prioritized projects,
• be flexible and adapt to complex situations,
• demonstrate strong computer skills in data management and presentations,
• work occasional evenings and weekends as needed,
• to stand or walk for long periods of time, bending, stooping, lifting of heavy objects (up to 40 pounds).
