Description

The Great Plains Zoo is currently looking to fill a Commissary/Hospital/Quarantine Zookeeper position as part of the zoo’s animal care team. This newly created position is going to require a motivated, dedicated team player who can also work independently. The successful candidate will need to have the skills and competency to prepare diets for zoo animals, organize and clean kitchens, inventory and stock food prep areas, organize and clean grain and feed rooms, as well as have the same responsibilities as other fulltime zookeepers in regards to the care and husbandry of hospitalized and/or quarantined animals. In this capacity, the hospital/quarantine keeper will work with a variety of species across all taxonomic classes on a regular basis. Zookeepers are responsible for the specialized work involving all aspects of general care and husbandry of zoo animals including maintaining/cleaning adjacent areas.

Education and Pre-requisites

Requires a bachelor’s college degree in Biology, Animal nutrition, Zoology or related field; or an equivalent level of work experience and education as determined by the hiring authority.
Previous zoo keeper or zoo commissary experience is desired.
Applicants must be available to work any of the seven days of the week, including, weekends, holidays, nights, and any shifts.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must pass a background check prior to employment.

Compensation and benefits

This is a fulltime, non-exempt position with benefits.
Hiring/entry hourly rate: $12.00-12.50 per hour.
