Description
Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary is a non-profit facility dedicated to providing exceptional, life-long care to wolves, wolfdogs, and other wild canids in need. We are currently home to over 50 rescues including wolves, wolfdogs, coyotes, foxes, New Guinea singing dogs, Australian dingoes, red foxes, and more.
As a growing non-profit, we are looking for a full-time Building & Maintenance Technician with an exceptional work ethic, who seeks to utilize their skillset to improve the lives of our rescues and help take our organization to the next level!
This position involves a wide variety of tasks that revolve around the general upkeep and improvement of grounds, enclosures, buildings, vehicles, and many other aspects of the sanctuary including:
• Enclosure construction, expansion, and repair
• Habitat design including the construction of cave houses, in-ground ponds, and man-made hill, rock, and tree features
• Installation and upkeep of barrier fences, gates, pulleys, etc.
• Aspects of building maintenance such as drywall installation, cabinetry, flooring, plumbing, electrical, etc.
• Hauling of water to off-site housing
• Drainage of storm water during monsoon season
• Preventative maintenance of sanctuary vehicles, tools, and machinery
Our ideal candidate will possess trade skills in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and/or electrical work. Experience operating light machinery is also necessary (tractors, bobcat, backhoe, etc.). Preference will be given to those also possessing skills in welding. An outstanding work ethic, good communication and conflict-resolution skills, and the ability to strictly follow safety protocols are a must.
Education and Pre-requisites
• Two years of experience working in construction or industrial maintenance preferred
• Friendly and outgoing personality with a willingness to guide, teach, and learn from others, including staff and interns
• Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and embrace flexibility
• Critical thinker who can offer recommendations and creative solutions
• Willingness to do what is needed in the moment to benefit the animals and organization (regardless of whether this falls under job description)
• Must be results-oriented, self-reflective, and take responsibility for actions
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to kneel, bend, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, and stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to consistently lift 50 pounds
• Must be comfortable on ladders and willing to operate tools and machinery
• Must be able to work in inclement weather and extreme heat
• Must present yourself in a professional manner when interacting with the public
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License
• Must provide proof of current Tetanus
Successful maintenance employees will be self-starters and motivated individuals with the ability to follow instructions and complete projects in a timely manner under little to no supervision. Communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills are also valuable traits for this position.
Compensation and benefits
• On-site housing in addition to internet and other utilities
• PTO, sick days, and paid holidays
• Weekends and holidays off (unless needed for Building & Maintenance related emergencies)
• Salary to be determined by experience.
