Description
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to work with the zoo’s approximately 15 avian species, including East African Crowned Cranes, European white stork, Bald Eagle, Caribbean flamingo, vulturine Guinea fowl, among others. This individual must excel at speaking and presenting in front of large groups of people. Experience using operant condition and training via positive reinforcement required.
Principal Duties:
-Perform daily animal presentations to the public with multiple animal species showcasing their natural behaviors.
-Reports animal and bird behavior and conditions on a daily basis.
-Clean and maintains bird and animals areas of the zoo.
-Assists in treating animals under the supervision of the veterinary staff.
-Continue to uphold the zoo’s mission at the zoo and zoo functions both on and off grounds.
-Other duties as assigned
Necessary Skills and Requirements:
-Ability to interact with the public in an engaging and welcoming manner.
-Ability to work as an effective team member as well as function independently
-Ability to handle and train multiple bird species using operant conditioning.
-Understand the general knowledge of animal biology with an emphasis in avian biology and the basic care of multiple avian species.
-Strong experience in public speaking.
-Minimum 1 year working with avian species.
-Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
-Excellent communication skills.
