Job Description: Under general supervision, employee will perform a wide range of functions in the Bird Department. Primary responsibility is to feed, clean, and maintain assigned collection animals, exhibits, holding areas and contiguous areas. Light exhibit construction, operate zoo vehicles and some power tools. Employee will be responsible for keeper talks and public speaking. Must have computer skills for performing tasks in various programs.
Special Job Requirements:
• Minimum of 4 years in a solid aviculture setting including capture and restraint, medical/immobilization, general health
• Strong skills in incubation and hand-rearing
• Keen eye and experience in exhibit maintenance
• Team oriented with ability to lead
Requirements:
• Must have BS or AS in zoology or related field or equivalent experience in aviculture.
• Must be to work outside year-round under typical Tennessee weather conditions.
• Must be able to work in uneven terrain including slippery surfaces.
• Must be able to lift and carry 75lbs and safely use ladders.
• Must be able to work with cleaning or construction chemicals and be able to work in cramped and confined spaces.
• Must be able to communicate thoroughly with staff.
• Must be flexible with schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
