Description
Job Title: Assistant Curator – Animal Management and Training – Wonders of Wildlife
Are you passionate about animal husbandry and wildlife conservation? Wonders of Wildlife is actively seeking an experienced Assistant Curator to enrich our dynamic team. This role is an incredible opportunity for professionals skilled in animal training and management, looking to influence the wellbeing of our cherished Animal Ambassador Collections.
In this role, your primary responsibilities revolve around providing comprehensive managerial oversight to our husbandry team, fostering the wellbeing of our vast animal collection, and designing efficient animal ambassador programs. You’ll leverage your expertise to update and implement all animal training procedures, create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), and act as a proactive leader, fostering growth and consistency in our operations.
Furthermore, your abilities will extend to ensuring AZA inspection readiness, assisting in staff evaluations, and verifying adherence to quarantine procedures. A strong understanding of animal health, life support systems, and species-specific husbandry practices is paramount for success in this role. You’ll also assist in developing viable breeding and conservation programs, and establishing effective exhibits.
Education and Pre-requisites
To be our ideal candidate, you’ll have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field (or equivalent experience), a minimum of 8 years’ experience in a professional animal facility, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Products. You should also possess excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and have previous experience supervising interns or volunteers.
