Description

A working area lead that supports the RHZ mission regarding staffing, zoo policy, animal and exhibit care, emergency/safety response, and guest services of assigned areas while modeling ideal animal care performance of a team of three to five peers.

This position will provide feedback regarding hiring needs, selection, and performance management of area. Work with team to maintain adequate staff coverage of all areas assigned. Will also have the opportunity to cross train in other areas and collaborate with other Zoo departments.

With your team:

Actively participate in daily advanced animal husbandry techniques and assessments related to: food, water, cleanliness, health, and animal behavior.

Train staff on necessary procedures and protocols, observe, monitor and report animal behavior changes and medical problems.

Keep detailed records of animal training, weight, health enrichment, training and behavior and plan/impliment work projects for the areas assigned.

Support daily behavior goal based enrichment and documentation to promote, encourage and evaluate natural and engaging behaviors with solid understanding of operant conditioning training.

Education and Pre-requisites

The ideal candidate would have three (3) years of paid experience working in an an animal care facility with relevant taxa or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties. Management experience preferred. A combination of real-life experience and education considered.

Compensation and benefits

Salary based on experience.

The right candidate will have opportunity to gain working experience from the director down. Rolling Hills Zoo is a small but growing facility having just expanded our African lion habitat. This position will be a participant in the next phase of our carnivore redesign of Amur tigers, snow leopards, and cougars. Salina, KS is a low-cost-of-living community strong in sports, arts, and entertainment.
