Description
Avian Behavior International is accepting applications for an internship position working with a wide variety of free-flighted birds, some hoofstock, and reptiles. The intern will participate in animal care and husbandry with a focus on a diverse collection of avian species. The position will also have opportunities for growth and participation in free-flight training, hand-rearing, early socialization, and presentations for our education programs and training sessions.
Education and Pre-requisites
The successful intern should possess a high level of motivation for positive reinforcement, progressive training methods and working with birds. Current students or recent graduates with course work in animal behavior, animal care, wildlife education, or related studies are preferred.
Applicants must be 18 years old and able to pass a background check. Additional responsibilities and qualities include:
• Daily feeding, cleaning, and husbandry of birds
• Able to work outdoors in uneven terrain
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Able to work independently as well as with a team
• Willing to follow directions and protocol
• Willing to interact with guests
• Have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle
Compensation and benefits
The three month position is unpaid, provides housing, and fulfills a four-day work week, averaging 30 hours per week.
