Animal Management Specialist

Description:
Primarily responsible for all aspects of the daily care, routine, and security, related to animal programs which may include a focal management area (eg. rhino, invertebrates, carnivores). Serve as primary front in presenting animal/wildlife management programs to our visitors.
• Perform all aspects of the daily care for the animal management programs relating their designated focus (rhino, pasture, carnivore, etc.).
• Understand departmental goals and priorities as they apply to specific animal and wildlife management programs, and participate in daily activities to achieve these goals.
• Assists with the implementation of research projects and data collection for related department projects.
• Participate with conservation and management programs related to designated care area.
• Work closely with Conservation Medicine department to insure the health of the animal programs.
• Accurately record and communicate daily activities within designated care area.
• Ensure security of the animals and visitors related to animal program facilities
• Assist with training programs and mentoring of entry level specialists, seasonal team, and interns.
• Assist and lead tours and education programs related to the department.
• Operate a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles, in completing the care of the animals and facilities.
• Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Wilds, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari and Golf Club.
• Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
