Description
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is looking for applicants for an Animal Keeper position on the Ituri Forest team. You will also have a practical understanding of antelope and/or pachyderm general husbandry, enrichment, and operant conditioning as it relates to the daily management and research of the species in their care. This is a full-time, hourly position and is considered a minimal experience or entry level position.
You Will:
Assist in the care, well-being, management, behavioral conditioning and enrichment of the Ituri Forest animal collection which includes; Black Rhino, Okapi, Nile Hippo, Bongo, Kudu, Nile Crocodile, Pink-backed Pelicans and Saddle-billed Storks.
Ensure the daily routines of cleaning, animal observation, diet preparation and reporting medical needs and abnormal conditions to Zoological Managers.
Maintain daily records, collecting and logging information and ensuring this information is communicated to management and the central animal record keeping system.
The work includes physical labor in ambient outdoor temperatures and weather conditions in Central Florida, which may include extreme heat and humidity. A practical understanding of operant conditioning is desired. Keepers are part of the area animal team and must work in a team environment.
Keepers also work with maintenance, operation managers, horticulture, veterinary staff, educators and scientists. Keepers also provide animal information and conservation messages through guest and cast interaction.
You will be working a variety of shifts including early morning start times (5AM) or late evening ending times (12AM), and may be required to work weekends and holidays.

You Have:
High school degree or equivalent plus a minimum of either: 1 years paid experience as a keeper in an AZA accredited institution or in an institution with equivalent standards and two years verifiable college coursework with an emphasis in zoology, animal science, biology, etc. OR 2 years paid experience as a keeper in an AZA accredited institution or in an institution with equivalent standards and 1 year verifiable college coursework (30 semester hours).
Demonstrable observation, evaluation, and data collecting skills
Demonstrable “guest” service skills
It would be great if you also have:
2 year Associate’s or 4 year college degree in Biology or related field
Experience working with large terrestrial mammals, especially elephants
Computer literacy
Practical knowledge and experience with operant conditioning
