Description
In collaboration and under minimal supervision of the Curator of Animals, the Animal Keeper is responsible for a number of specific tasks as outlined below under responsibilities.
Overseeing the welfare of the exotic and domestic animals in Peoria Zoo’s Collection.
Participating in behavioral enhancement and training for the animal collection.
Maintaining accurate records and paperwork necessary to maintain an animal population in human care.
Maintaining habitats and off-site areas in a timely and efficient manner.
Supporting all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
Education and Pre-requisites
Minimum of 18 years of age.
Four year degree in related field. Although a degree is preferred, extensive experience in a like position maybe substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
Requires a valid Class “D” Driver’s License.
One year of full-time experience in the care and maintenance of wild and/or domestic animals.
Ability to work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees in a positive and cooperative manner.
This position is represented by AFSCME Council 31, Local 3774.
Compensation and benefits
$30,405 – $33,000
