Description
Curator
Reston Zoo is looking for an Animal Curator to join our staff. We are a family friendly zoological park located on 30 acres in the middle of Fairfax County, Virginia. The collection includes small mammals, birds, primates, reptiles, domestic and exotic hoof stock.
Requirements:
A neat, clean appearance.
• No visible tattoos or facial piercings.
• Non-smoking workplace.
• Must have great people skills.
• Must be available weekends and holidays.
• Must have full-time, year-round availability
Duties:
• Managing the collection of animals at the zoo and ensuring the animals thrive long-term.
• Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating and scheduling animal keepers.
• Keeping breeding logs.
• Generating work orders for the animal department.
• Ensure safety and USDA compliance for the department.
• Creating monthly inventory and change reports
• Animal husbandry and other duties as assigned by Director
Education and Pre-requisites
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent amount of experience in the animal science, biology or a similar field.
• Minimum of experience to be able to perform all job duties.
• Physically fit and ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability or willingness to become familiar with dart guns, chemical restraint equipment and lethal means of subduing animals.
Compensation and benefits
