This is a behind the scenes animal care team at a safari style park. We offer some on-the-job training, however some previous animal experience, veterinary technician or zoological experience is preferred. This is a mostly outdoor position, you will be required to work in all-weather environments, summer, winter, rain, etc. Our current full-time schedule is four 10-hour shifts (35 – 45 hours/week). This is a very rewarding, hands-on job with multi-species animal interactions each day. We’re looking for an upbeat individual with a passion for working in the animal industry. This is a great job to gain experience and education caring for exotics and working with a like-minded close-knit team. You will be caring for 25+ species including giraffe, mixed deer, zebra, camels, llamas, mixed antelope, rhea, kangaroos, tortoise, etc, for a total of over 2,000 animals. Job Duties:
– Daily animal food prep of over 25 different species
– Cleaning and maintaining animal stalls and facilities
– Recognize, understand and explain animal behavioral changes
– Daily logging and charting
– Giving prescribed medications in the form of injections, topical and oral
– Neonatal care in nursery program
– Cleaning medical room and equipment
– Field animal observation, immobilizations and record keeping
– Fecal parasite checks using microscope
– Animal training
– Animal handling and restraint
– Animal enrichment
– Keeper talks to small or large public groups
– Cross training of other departments here at Global
Education and Pre-requisites
Requirements:
– High school diploma or equivalent
– At least one (1) year professional animal husbandry experience
– Ability to lift 50 pounds
– Ability to perform basic mathematics
– Ability to complete all strenuous activities of the job description
– Adhere to drug free environment
– Ability to work in all weather conditions (cold, hot, sunny, rainy)
– Ability to work 8AM – 6PM, weekends, and holidays. Some shifts may require hours outside of these times for emergency or special care situations
– Valid driver’s license
– 18+ years old
Preferred:
– Veterinary technician experience
– Zoological or other similar exotic animal experience
– Degree in zoology, wildlife management, animal science or other related field
