Description
Interns will gain valuable work experience while working with keepers to help in the daily care and operations of 160 animals at the zoo including but not limited to diet prep, feeding, cleaning, assisting in husbandry care, light maintenance and construction, observations, and enrichment. Internships completed while the park is open to the public will also include assisting in educational presentations and special events. During the course of your internship you will be required to complete 250 hours over the course of 10 to 12 weeks with the Summer Intern start date being June 3rd. You will also be required to complete two enrichment projects and one final project for the zoo.
Education and Pre-requisites
– Must be either a recent graduate of college (within the last two years), or a current college student in a degree in the related field.
– Be capable of the physical abilities required to work in the zoo (e.g. lift 50 lbs, frequent bending and stooping, etc.)
– Be capable of standing for extended periods of time and working in an outdoor environment under any weather condition.
– Ability to work without direct supervision
– Ability to follow both oral and written direction
– Ability to work the schedule agreed upon
– Ability to interact positively with the public, especially to give them information about the animals and the zoo.
– Ability to responsibly use and maintain zoo equipment and tools
– Must be at least 18 years of age
– Candidates must submit and pass a background check
– Candidates must have a valid driver’s license
Compensation and benefits
This is an unpaid Internship, no housing is provided. Uniform shirts and sweatshirts are provided.
