Animal Care Specialist

The San Joaquin County General Services Parks & Recreation Division is currently accepting applications to fill one full-time vacancy for Animal Care Specialist. This position is responsible for monitoring and caring for living species in the Micke Grove Zoo, located in Lodi, California. Special requirement: Upon job offer, incumbents must 1) Successfully pass a tuberculosis test and maintain a negative tuberculosis test for duration of employment; and 2) Must receive rabies vaccine within six months of hire.

Certifications 1) Obtain First Aid/CPR certificate within six months of employment; and 2) Obtain firearm safety training certificate within six months of employment.

Education and Pre-requisites

Minimum qualifications for this position include: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in biology, zoology, wildlife management, wildlife ecology, animal behavior or a closely related field AND one year of experience caring for zoo animals and/or exotic species in a zoo or similar setting. Equivalent combination of education and experience caring for zoo animals and/or exotic species in a zoo or similar setting may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.

Compensation and benefits

Monthly Salary $3,330 – $4,046 Monthly
