RESPONSIBILITES: Carry out all aspects of the daily care of assigned animals including cleaning, feeding, enrichment, observing and evaluating animal collection according to USDA and ZAA standards. Development of public speaking skills with ambassador animals, public interaction with guests in the animal encounters, giraffe encounters, budgie encounters, and educational center.
WORK ENVIRONEMNT: This position requires interns to work in all weather conditions heat, humidity, rain, and cold. This position involves considerable physical exertion and will be subjected to strong odor/hay/dust/dander/climb ladders/stairs/lift and carry crates/animals and regular lifting of heavy objects/feed bags (up to 80 pounds). Must be agile and flexible to maneuver in and around animals within exhibits, corrals, and holding areas.
WORKING HOURS:
The internship runs from the middle of May through Labor-day weekend.
The Internship position consists of 40 hours per week. Interns will be required to work weekday, weekends, and holidays.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to maintain good working relationship with interns, seasonal staff, volunteers, and full-time keeper staff as assigned. Must demonstrate the ability to learn and integrate information, knowledge and direction quickly and complete tasks as needed with little or no supervision. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Education and Pre-requisites

Applicants must be currently enrolled in college-level classes and working toward a degree in captive wildlife management, conservation biology, biology, zoology, or animal science.
Must have an interest in working with the general public. Must exhibit consistent professional characteristics such as a positive attitude, ability to show initiative, and emotional maturity.

Compensation and benefits

Pay: $100.00 per week stipend. Provided on-site housing, utilities, and limited Internet.
