Animal Care Interns (Big Cats)

Facility

WildCat Ridge Sanctuary

Closing Date
July 1, 2020
Description

WildCat Ridge Sanctuary has three immediate openings for hardworking and enthusiastic Animal Care Interns. WCR is home to over 60 captive-born wildcats and hybrids. We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to learning how to provide care for the wildcat rescues while following strict safety code.
WildCat Ridge Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 lifetime sanctuary for captive-born wildcats. The facility is located in Scotts Mills Oregon. WCR is a member of the American Sanctuary Association, Tigers in America, Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, American Association of Zoo Keepers and the Big Cat Sanctuary Alliance. We care for lions, tigers, cheetahs, cougars, bobcats, servals, caracals, hybrid cats as well as a few rescued farm animals and poultry.
WCR is not open to the public allowing the Animal Care Interns to devote all their time to caring for the wildcat residents without taking time away to do tours. This provides an incredible opportunity to get to know each and every one of the animals that they work with on a more personal level. The animal internship program will provide valuable knowledge and experience with exotic feline husbandry and provide valuable experience for a future in the field of zookeeper or animal care in a Sanctuary setting and adding valuable skills to your resume.
Some of the training offered:
• Animal Observation: methods to assess an animal’s behavior and their environment
 • General Animal Information: protocol for keeping records of all aspects of sanctuary care
• Small Felid Husbandry: teaches daily care of domestics and hybrid cats
• Enrichment: procedures for creating enrichment for all the animals on-site
• Food Preparation: policies and procedures for food preparation, feeding, and watering for the wildcats
• Medication and Supplements: learn medications/supplements used for the residents and the best way to safely administer treatment
• Cleaning: procedures used for cleaning indoor and outdoor habitats
**WCR is a strict No-Contact facility**

• Candidates should have at least one year of undergraduate program studies in zoology, biology, or other animal-related fields. Preference will be given to candidates that have worked with animals before.
