Join the Binder Park Zoo team as an Animal Care Intern this summer!

Binder Park is looking for dedicated, dependable individuals for our summer internship program. Interns play an important role in animal conservation and have the unique opportunity to aid our zookeeping staff in various responsibilities associated with maintaining the animal collection. Tasks include, but are not limited to, routine cleaning of animal enclosures, diet preparations, exhibit maintenance, animal observations, behavioral enrichment, operant conditioning and educating and interacting with zoo guests. The internship offers the opportunity to rotate through every area in the animal care department, allowing at least some experience with every animal in the collection.
The internship is available to individuals working towards or who have a degree in zoology, biology or any other animal related field. The internship is experienced based and unpaid. Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. Applicants must be able to commit to 40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks. Qualified applicants must be able to work in a team environment and have excellent communication skills. The internship is physically demanding but can also be highly rewarding. Applicants should be able to lift 50 pounds and be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions.

Education and Pre-requisites

The internship is available to individuals working towards or who have a degree in zoology, biology or any other animal related field. Previous animal experience is preferred.

Compensation and benefits

The internship is experienced based and unpaid. Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. Applicants must be able to commit to 40 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks.
