POSITION SUMMARY:
This position involves variable hours and a flex schedule (15 to 20 hours/week average, but will vary seasonally and may include full time work). Temporary Ambassador Animal staff members are expected to work weekends and some evenings.

This position functions as a member of the Ambassador Animal care team, which predominantly includes work with the Wildlife Show and Animal Encounter programs. Duties may include presenting formal or informal education programs, leading activities, coaching volunteer program participants (adult and teen volunteers, interns and students), and performing in the summer Wildlife Live show, media appearances and public events. Responsibilities may also include direct animal care for any or all of the Ambassador Animal collection, including daily husbandry, animal training, and maintaining records relating to health, diet and behavior. Direction may be received from the Ambassador Animal Specialists. Position is supervised by the Ambassador Animal Area Supervisor.

Education and Pre-requisites

• One year of experience working with animals and educational programming; OR
• Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the job.
• Requires a valid driver’s license with at least two years of driving history and a clean driving record.
• Requires a complete background check and driving records check.
• Medical testing and/or immunizations may be required as the duties of this position may require close contact with animal areas and enclosures where animals may be present.

Preferred qualifications:
• Additional education in biology, zoology or a related field
• Direct responsibility for the daily routine husbandry with a variety of animals in a zoo or similar setting
• Experience presenting scripted and non-scripted programming to the public.

Compensation and benefits

Salary: $17.80 hourly
