Description
Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary is now accepting applications for two Fall/Winter six-month internship positions.
Accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and the American Sanctuary Association, Safe Haven Wildlife Sanctuary provides lifelong care to large carnivores and small wild felids, including tigers, lions, bears, mountain lions, caracals, African servals, bobcats and native wildlife not eligible for reintroduction.
Most of our residents have been rescued from substandard conditions, illegally owned and/or confiscated and native wildlife not eligible for release back to the wild.
Interns work closely with animal keepers to gain experience in exotic animal husbandry and further develop skills for animal care careers. Responsibilities includes, but are not limited to:
*Diet Preparation
*All related animal husbandry including diet preparation, feedings, habitat cleaning, dispensing medications and providing regularly scheduled enrichment and training.
*Providing informal onsite tours to the public.
*Assist with habitat building.
Education and Pre-requisites
*Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and currently enrolled in an animal-related science program.
*Must have a valid driver’s license.
*Must be fully vaccinated for COVID variants.
*Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and work in inclement weather.
*Must be flexible with scheduling and work hours.
Compensation and benefits
This is an unpaid position. However, free onsite housing is provided and a $400.00 per month stipend. We are remotely located in northern Nevada and applicants must have their own means of transportation.
Work days are typically 8-hour shifts but sometimes longer with two consecutive days off per week.
*For the safety of our staff and animals, we are a No-Contact facility.
