Description
Tanganyika Wildlife Park is currently accepting applications from hard working, dependable college students and recent graduates to participate in a keeper internship within our animal department.Keeper Interns are desired for the following term: March 1st, 2019 to November 11th, 2019. Interns will gain valuable experience working with rare and endangered species including birds, reptiles, small and large animals, carnivores, hoofstock and primates by working one on one with keepers and the public in a variety of ways detailed below:
Education and Pre-requisites
-Prospective Interns must be at least 18 years of age before the start of their internship.
-Preference will be given to college students working towards a degree or those that have a degree in zoo science, wildlife biology, zoology, or other related field.
-Excellent public speaking and customer service skills are required.
-Interns must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
-Interns should be able to stand or walk and be able to perform physical work outside in varied weather conditions.
-Interns should be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50 to 75 pounds when necessary.
-Interns are required to work with the keeper(s) of their area to create and assess an original enrichment device or approved project.
-Interns must commit to OUR schedule including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
-The number of hours required per week will vary, but interns should expect to work approximately 30 hours paid and 10 hours unpaid per week. The unpaid hours will give you extra scheduled time to work on your individual project, get more time in your favorite animal area, more one-on-one time with keepers, training time, or to simply aid a keeper on a larger project.
Compensation and benefits
-This is a paid position, currently paying $7.25 per hour.
-Limited housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: housing is not guaranteed for interns.
