Description

Happy Hollow Park and Zoo is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to fill the position of an as needed sleepover instructor.

Desired Qualifications:

• Applicants should have excellent communication skills and be able to work in a fast paced environment.
• Applicants should be available to work overnight, irregular hours, and special events
• Applicants should be able to lift over 50 lbs.
• Applicants should have at least one year of experience teaching in a formal or informal setting.
• Applicants should have experience delivering engaging presentations to a variety of audiences.
• Applicants should have experience handling both domestic and exotic species.

Responsibilities Include:

• Safely handling a variety of domestic and exotic animals
• Providing engaging and educational presentations to a variety of audiences
• Coordinating with various departments within the zoo
• Communicating effectively with the education team
• Sleeping on zoo grounds
• Supervising guest experience and safety

Education and Pre-requisites

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Experience: Three (3) months experience in a specific subject matter relevant to the type of instruction provided.

Acceptable Substitutions: Six (6) months (2 sessions) experience as an instructor with the City of San José’s recreational programs may be substituted for either the education or the experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate may be required.

Necessary Special Qualifications:
Must be at least eighteen (18) years old
Special Certifications/Licenses for specialized subject or skills may be required
Other special qualifications may apply.

Compensation and benefits

THIS CLASSIFICATION IS COVERED BY THE LIVING WAGE POLICY AND HOURLY PAY STARTS AT $19.06 AN HOUR INSTEAD OF THE POSTED $13.43 AMOUNT.

These positions are part-time un-benefited, with a limit of less that 20 hours per week, or less than 1,040 hours per year. Assignments are either seasonal or per session (often with breaks between sessions). Classes taught are fully dependent upon minimum participant enrollment and are priced to be cost recovery. There is not a guarantee of hours or longevity.
