Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Animal husbandry, hand raising, maintenance of exhibit and off-exhibit areas, record keeping, behavioral enrichment, training, capture, restraint, transport and veterinary procedures.
Position also includes the daily upkeep of animal logs, interaction with the general public such as tours, demonstrations, outreach programs and supervising volunteers.
Education and Pre-requisites
Minimum of three years paid full time Zoo experience in a ZAA or AZA accredited institution. Working with a cross section of animals including carnivores. Ability to lift 50lbs, move a minimum of 100 lbs, use an eight foot stepladder and be in good physical condition.
Must be able to follow prescribed Zoo animal care protocol, strictly observe safety rules involved in working with carnivores small and large. Schedule includes weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned. Must be able to interact well with Zoo Visitors through daily educational presentations.
Compensation and benefits
Starting salary range: $26,000 to $32,000
