INTERVIEWING FOR INTERNSHIP POSITIONS ARE CONDUCTED ON-SITE
(APPROXIMATELY 2-2 ½ HOURS)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Experience includes learning and carrying out proper safety procedures for ambassador animals, diet preparation, feeding, cleaning animal habitats, maintain animal habitats, monitor animal health, animal management, behavioral observations, enrichment, and record keeping according to USDA standards and ZAA protocol. Interns will also have learning opportunities and responsibilities involving informal guest interactions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position requires interns to work in all weather conditions heat, humidity, rain, and cold. This position involves considerable physical exertion and will be subjected to strong odor/hay/dust/dander/climb ladders/stairs/lift and carry crates/animals and regular lifting of heavy objects/feed bags (up to 80 pounds). Must be agile and flexible to maneuver in and around animals within exhibits, corrals, and holding areas.

WORKING HOURS: The Internship position consists of 40-45 hours per week. Interns will be required to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to maintain good working relationship with interns, seasonal staff, volunteers, and full-time keeper staff as assigned. Must demonstrate the ability to learn and integrate information, knowledge and direction quickly and complete tasks as needed with little or no supervision. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Education and Pre-requisites

EDUCATION AND PRE-REQUISITES: Applicants must be currently enrolled in college-level classes and working toward a degree in captive wildlife management, conservation biology, biology, zoology, or animal science.
Must have an interest in working with the general public.
Must exhibit consistent professional characteristics such as a positive attitude, ability to show initiative, and emotional maturity.

HEALTH AND SAFETY: Must maintain current tetanus vaccination (5-years) and be willing to have a TB test done before internship starts.

Compensation and benefits

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: $200.00 per week stipend and free on-site housing are provided.
