Description
Basic responsibilities:
• Following correct safety procedures for working with all animal species
• Performing all aspects of basic animal husbandry including feeding,
cleaning/sanitizing animal enclosures, recordkeeping, operant
conditioning/training
• Displaying positive interaction with the public
• Creating enrichment experiences for the animals
• Preparing animal diets
• Administering medication or treatment under veterinary instruction and
supervision
• Maintaining a clean work area and equipment
• Effectively managing time in a fast-paced environment
• Monitoring of behavior for mental and physical health of each animal
• Reporting issues to management in a timely manner
• Safely operating vehicles and small power tools
This is a full-time position working with multiple species groups such as primates, small mammals, hoofstock, reptiles, birds and large carnivores.
Education and Pre-requisites
• Bachelor of Science in biology, zoology, or related sciences preferred
• Self-motivated – can work efficiently and safely under little to no supervision
• Creative/problem solving skills and a positive attitude
• Physical ability to working in all weather conditions and to lift 50 lbs.
• Available to work weekends and holidays
• Previous experience working with exotic animals in protected or no contact environments is preferred but not required. Experience in training and operant conditioning a plus.
Compensation and benefits
Compensation: $15 or more/hour depending on experience level.
Benefits (After probationary period): 80 hours sick, 80 hours PTO, health/dental/vision insurance, flexible schedule.
