GENERAL SUMMARY
Do you love to work with a diverse group of animals in a beautiful setting? We have an immediate opening for a Lead Hoofstock Keeper at our Sanctuary located just south of Atlanta. This position will oversee our extensive and diverse hoofstock on site. The position will be ultimately responsible for all aspects of daily animal care with our hoofstock at Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary. In addition, this position will be cross trained to work across all Departments as an integral part of our Keeper team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AN RESPONSIBILITIES
• This position will be responsible for the daily and routine care of all hoofstock, maintenance of their pastures and barns, inventory and storage of feeds.
• The position will observe animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior; notifying managers as warranted and carry out treatment plans.
• The successful candidate will have experience in basic capture, restraint, shifting, and handling techniques and knowledge of hoof health.
• It will assist in procedures such as translocations and veterinary procedures.
• It will be responsible for carrying out routine deworming, vaccinations, basic hoof care and grooming.
• Be able to care for any special needs or ill/ injured hoofstock with oversight.
• Inventory all feeds including hay and mineral blocks; notify managers as warranted.
General:
• Be able to work with community service and/or volunteers to feed and care for animals and maintain their areas.
• Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time.
• Ability to regularly perform a variety of physical tasks that include but are not limited to climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and crawling.
• Physical strength, including ability to frequently move up to fifty (50) pounds.
• Ability to work in small, confined spaces.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to wear requisite Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that may include rubber/latex gloves, steel-toed boots/shoes, face shields, eye goggles.
• No allergy related to plants or animals that may interfere with the ability to work
• No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch balance and ability of movement that might interfere with ability to work
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills and ability to maintain, train and troubleshoot.
• Willing to be cross trained to work with our exotic animals

Education and Pre-requisites

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); associates degree or higher preferred.
• Three or more years’ experience working with hoofstock carrying out tasks similar to those outlined in this job description
• Written and oral communication skills, self-motivation, positive attitude, adaptability, and flexibility to multi-task.
• Ability to work sitting, bending, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds.

Compensation and benefits
