About the Oregon Zoo
The Oregon Zoo is located in Portland, Oregon, and is home to nearly 2,000 animals representing 192 species of amphibians, birds, reptiles, fish, invertebrates and mammals. Owned and operated by Metro, the region’s government, the zoo welcomes more than 1.5 million visitors each year and enjoys widespread community support.

The Oregon Zoo has a reputation for leading groundbreaking research, participates in local and global conservation efforts, and strives to exceed AZA animal welfare standards. The organization is also deeply committed to sustainability and conservation education. Thanks to a generous $125 million voter approved bond measure, the zoo is transforming into a game changing leader in animal welfare, species and habitat conservation outcomes, and green building practices.

Leadership at the Oregon Zoo
The Oregon Zoo seeks leaders who inspire, motivate and empower others to continuously learn and grow. We want to build an environment where we care for our staff as thoughtfully and respectfully as we care for the animals in our charge, where staff feel valued for their skills and expertise, and are invited to engage in planning and decision making activities.

The Oregon Zoo is committed to advancing racial equity for our staff, community and visitors. We are looking for leaders who understand the historic inequities in the region and in the field of zoology, and who are committed to effecting meaningful change in our work practices, our visitor services and our education programs.

If you are a nurturing leader with a commitment to advancing racial equity and dismantling systems that oppress people of color and other disadvantaged communities, we invite you to join us in this critical work.

At the Oregon Zoo, we strive to hire a workforce representative of the communities we serve, understanding that a diverse workforce strengthens our organization. We value diversity and support a positive and welcoming environment where all of our employees can thrive.
