Responsibilities and Duties
Overview
The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to work with the zoo’s approximately 95 species as a relief keeper. This individual must possess a strong work ethic and positive attitude and have experience speaking in large groups of people.
Principal Duties:
* Perform daily animal presentations to the public with multiple animal species showcasing their natural behaviors
* Reports animal behavior and conditions on a daily basis
* Clean and maintains multiple animal areas of the zoo
* Assists in treating animals under the supervision of the veterinary staff
* Continue to uphold the zoo’s mission at the zoo and zoo functions both on and off grounds.
* Diet preparation
Necessary Skills:
* Ability to interact with the public in an engaging and welcoming manner
* Ability to work as an effective team member as well as function independently
* Ability to handle and train multiple species using operant conditioning
* Efficient time management skills in a high paced environment
Education and Pre-requisites
Minimum Requirements
* Ability to work as an effective team member as well as function independently
* Strong experience in public speaking
* Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays as needed
* Excellent communication skills
* Degree in Animal Science, Zoology, Fisheries and Wildlife or equivalent preferred
* Lifting and carrying up to 60lbs
* Working outside in all conditions
