SUMMARY: Manages all aspects of Zoo Camp for the San Francisco Zoo and ensures that the programs advance the Zoo’s mission, vision, goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES will include the following:
Sets goals and objectives for Zoo Camp program and ensure they are met. Evaluates programs and takes action as necessary to best advance Zoo’s mission.

Manages all administrative aspects of the Zoo Camp program including registration, database management, evaluation, cash processing and reporting, and assists with yearly budget.

Maintains level of excellent customer service with program participants, prospective participants, families, and Zoo guests at all times. This includes daily communication; making phone calls, assisting with e-mails & fielding feedback.

Responsible for the safety of all campers at all times. This includes responding to emergency situations, administering first aid & overseeing the check-out process to ensure a smooth, safe and efficient experience for all Zoo Camp participants. Conducts regular safety training with seasonal staff.

Provides oversight for other Education Department programs as needed or directed. Communicates effectively with members of the Education staff, as well as members of other Zoo departments. This will include both time sensitive and secure communications.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages and supervises seasonal camp staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, applicable laws, and relevant labor laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate for the position will have completed some undergraduate coursework in biology, zoology, ecology, or education. Must have one year supervisory experience. The candidate must be in good physical condition and capable of standing and walking for the duration of normal work shifts. The candidate must have good organizational skills and exceptional people skills, including the ability to provide excellent customer service and personal attention to zoo visitors of all ages.

EDUCATION: College degree, with coursework in biology, zoology, ecology, or education preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Program management, public speaking, guest engagement, and customer service. Experience working with animals and familiarity with San Francisco Zoo preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including inclement weather.

SALARY RATE: $22.00/Hour

WORK SCHEDULE (subject to change): 5-day workweek, Monday through Friday,
8 hours a day and potential evening shift.
