Description

Randall Oaks Zoo internship is a 10 to 12 week internship that upon completion will include 300 hours of hands on zoo experience. Shifts and times will vary. Interns will gain valuable experience while working with keepers to help in the daily care and operations in the zoo including but not limited to diet prep, feeding, cleaning, assisting in husbandry care, light maintenance and construction, observations, enrichment, and training. Interns will also participate in the daily operations of the zoo for the public which include keeper talks, public presentations, petting zoo attendant, and pony ride operations. During the coarse of your internship you will complete two enrichment projects, one training project, and one final project for the zoo.

Education and Pre-requisites

-Must be either a recent graduate of college (within the last two years), or a current college student in a degree related to the animal field.
-Be capable of the physical abilities required to work in the zoo (e.g. lift 50 pounds, frequent bending and stooping, etc.)
-Work weekends and holidays
-Be capable of standing for extended periods of time and working in an outdoor environment under any weather condition
-Ability to work without direct supervision
-Ability to follow both oral and written direction
-Ability to work the schedule agree upon
-Ability to interact positively with the public
-Ability to responsibly use and maintain zoo equipment and tools
-Must be at least 18 years of age
-Candidates must submit and pass a background check once hired
-Must have a valid drivers license

Compensation and benefits

This is an unpaid internship and interns are responsible for their own housing.
