Senior Wildlife Specialist-Programs, Wildlife Specialists- Programs and Wildlife Curator

Job Summary:

 

The Seasonal Wildlife Specialist’s daily responsibilities include daily husbandry and management of the animals in the collection as well as presenting wildlife encounters and shows which include mammals, reptiles, and free-flight raptors.

 

Responsibilities

Basic Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily husbandry of animal collection which may include but is not limited to diet prep, enrichment, re-perching, hosing, scrubbing, etc.
  • General maintenance and upkeep of animal holding.
  • Assist in training of animals.
  • Presentation of animal encounters and shows.
  • Maintain daily animal records.
  • Maintain and clean service areas.
  • Comply with all Museum policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Provide veterinary care assistance as needed.

 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two [2] years college in a biological science and six [6] months practical experience in the care and husbandry of exotic/wild animals, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Understanding of animal training and operant conditioning.
  • Understanding of enrichment.
  • Experience in public speaking, shows or presentations.  Ability to memorize a 20 minute script.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including, but not limited to, lifting 50 pounds, carrying, stooping, bending, extensive walking, crawling, or climbing and withstand working outside in the extreme weather conditions typical of Central Oregon.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, some evenings, early mornings, and occasional overtime.
