Job Summary: |
The exhibit-focused Wildlife Intern’s daily
basic responsibilities include 1) Daily husbandry and management of the
animals on exhibit, 2) Maintenance of all wildlife exhibits. Wildlife Exhibit animals include mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and invertebrates. |
Responsibilities
The Internship is meant to provide practical learning experience and knowledge in the field of animal husbandry, animal handling, and exhibit maintenance. Interns will work with and around a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. Interns will be instructed in and have responsibility for the following areas:
- Animal Husbandry (including record keeping, cleaning, etc.)
- General maintenance and upkeep of animal exhibits and enclosures
- Animal observations
- Nutrition and Diets (including preparation)
- Environmental Enrichment
- Informal Public Presentations
In return, the intern makes a significant contribution to the
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited college or university
- Have a minimum of one [1] year of coursework in a biological science
- Ability
to perform physical tasks including, but not limited to, lifting 50
pounds, carrying, stooping, bending, extensive walking, crawling, or
climbing and ability to withstand working outside in the extreme
weather conditions typical of Central Oregon.
- Commit to a set work schedule dependent on school and regular job hours.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, some evenings, and early mornings.
- Comply with all Museum policies, procedures, protocols and safety regulations.
