Description

Gainesville is a historic, rural community close to the TX-OK border. It is 25 miles north of Denton, home to two universities. The Frank Buck Zoo is 13 acres. The zoo is very family and community-oriented holding several family friendly community events each year.

Responsibilities

A person in this position will be responsible for the day-to-day husbandry of axis deer, aoudad, bison, turkey, pheasants, goats, elk, and potbellied pigs, including: feeding, cleaning, exhibit maintenance, daily training and behavioral enrichment sessions, grounds maintenance surrounding exhibits, keeper presentations and other interactions with the public three days a week. This person will also be cross-trained to close and cover North American Central area which includes: bears, bobcats, coyotes, raccoon, birds of prey, cotton tails rabbits, and skunk. This person may be asked to assist with public giraffe feeding or assist in another areas animal training program. This person will also act as the swing keeper two days a week to cover both care of the Education animal collection which includes: birds of prey, hedgehogs, tenrecs, parrot, reptiles and arthropods and scheduled programs.

Requirements

Candidates for this position must have initiative, work well independently as well as with a team, possess excellent time management skills, be detail-oriented, have charisma, customer service and polished interpretive skills, possess the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must have a degree in one of the life sciences and/or the right combination of paid exotic animal experience. Previous hoof stock experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Compensation

Starting $11.01 per hour. Salary range is from $20,951 to $35,906 annually and includes a benefits package.
