Description

Duties include but not limited to; diet preparation, building and grounds upkeep, animal enrichment, observations, record keeping, routine animal medications, public interaction, ectothermiculture including care for a greenhouse, as well as some life support systems, incubation of eggs and neonatal rearings along with other duties as directed by the Poikilothermic Specialist.  Responsible for providing animal encounter programs and visitor satisfaction.

Requirements

Applicant should be:
(1) Interested in increasing knowledge of Ectotherm exhibitry in a public protected environment.
(2) Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
(3) Must have a valid state driver’s license.
(4) Requires strong communication and organizational skills, including attention to detail, knowledge of a safe working environment for animal collection, employees, and visitors. Also be in possession of the ability to work independently and as a team. Note: Position will involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous an unpredictable animal species, possible exposure to infections and parasitic disease, and potential dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs. Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required e.g. goggles, mask, gloves.
 (5) Willingness to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and/or weekends and holidays.
(6) In good health and capable of performing strenuous an/or heavy physical labor with the ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop, as well as posses adequate physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
(7) No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work.
(8) A current Tuberculosis test with results is required prior to hire.  Able to acquire Rabies titer if not already possessed.
