International Exotic Animal Sanctuary - Boyd, Texas

Spring Internship: March 5-May 31, deadline January 1

Summer Internship: June 5-August 31, deadline April 1

Fall Internship: September 5-November 30, deadline July 1

Winter Internship: December 5-February 28, deadline October 1

There is one position available within the International Exotic Animal Sanctuary Education Department. Education Interns can also apply for a six month Education Intern position.  The International Exotic Animal Sanctuary is the first sanctuary ever to be granted certification by the AZA. The Sanctuary cares for 59 exotic felines encompassing 12 different feline species, four grizzly bears and three black bears.

Experience includes leading conservation education tours, presenting presentations to schools, writing grants for the Education Program, and at times helping with some of the animal care.

Responsibilities

Interns will be responsible for giving regular tours throughout the week, preparing education presentations to be given at schools, and will participate with fund-raising opportunities. They will also be responsible for any other special projects that need to be completed such as making photo books, dvd's, etc.   Interns will be able to learn as much about exotic felines' behavior as they choose to learn within the three month session.

Requirements

Requirements: Candidates should have at least two (2) years of undergraduate program studies in zoology, animal management, biology, or a related field or three (3) years of experience at an AZA-accredited facility. Interns must be able to perform regular duties in 90 to over 100 degree weather. Interns must present themselves in a professional manner during their internship. 


Required: completed application including a copy of driver's license, three (3) letters of reference, unofficial or official transcript, and a cover letter and resumé. Consideration will only be given to those who send completed application and required documents.

Compensation

$50/week stipend

Vehicles and housing are available. Housing is in a new luxurious four-bedroom/four bathroom air-conditioned dormitory home with a large kitchen.
